£100,000 support for Swindon voluntary groups
13 July 2020A new £100,000 fund to support voluntary groups tackling the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in Swindon has been set up by a pioneering housing development in partnership with the Wiltshire Community Foundation.
Covid volunteer group supported by Wiltshire Community Foundation could continue after pandemic
30 June 2020Volunteers who joined a town’s Covid-19 response group and helped feed and befriend more than 2,000 people could continue their work after the pandemic. The Royal Wootton Bassett Covid-19 Mutual Aid Group, which mobilised almost 400 volunteers at the height of the lockdown, used a £2,000 grant from the Wiltshire Community Foundation’s Coronavirus Response Fund to help supply food boxes to isolated pensioners and low-income families.
Wiltshire's Link Schemes need your help
29 June 2020There are 43 Link Schemes across the county. These voluntary groups offer a transport and good neighbour service to local people who are in need, perhaps because they are elderly, disabled, isolated and lonely, single parents, or perhaps temporarily in need because of illness and they are desperately seeking more volunteers.
Village shop rings up success thanks to Wiltshire Community Foundation grant
24 June 2020Older people and young families living in a remote village have been able to shop on their doorsteps thanks to a Wiltshire Community Foundation grant. Villagers in Minety have been campaigning for their own store for more than two years and when the county went into lockdown, the committee behind the campaign set up a pop-up shop, which has been given £1,200 from the community foundation’s Coronavirus Response Fund to help it keep going.

24 June 2020A garden charity that provides inspiration and comfort to spinal injury patients has been helped to stay open by a Wiltshire Community Foundation grant. Horatio’s Garden at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Injury Centre at Salisbury District Hospital, the county’s only spinal injury centre, has been awarded £4,098 from the Swindon and Wiltshire Coronavirus Response Fund to help pay the salary of head gardener Stephen Hackett.
Malmesbury shoppers are keeping it local
24 June 2020Retailers in Malmesbury have welcomed the return of shoppers to the High Street and town centre following recent re-opening of non-essential shops. Many have reported an increase in customer confidence following the social distancing measures put in place by retailers and the combined efforts of Malmesbury Town Team, Malmesbury Town Council and Wiltshire Council in time for the first day of trading.
Best selling author is supporting Wiltshire children's charity
22 June 2020Best-selling author Minette Walters wants children and young people to share their lockdown experiences for a summer short story competition in aid of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice. The free to enter Julia’s House Summer Shorties competition will have two categories, age five to nine and ten to 16, and will be judged by a panel, chaired by the author. She has been a patron of the children’s charity, which cares for life-limited children in Wiltshire and Dorset, for more than 20 years.
New welcome signs installed in Salisbury
22 June 2020Salisbury City Council is pleased to announce that visitors and residents will now be greeted by new welcome signs when arriving at our city. Coronavirus grant helps anxious and isolated Wiltshire care home residents stay in touch with family
12 June 2020Elderly people in care homes isolated from friends and family will be able to stay in touch more easily, thanks to Wiltshire Community Foundation coronavirus grant. Care Home Volunteers, which works in care homes across Swindon and Wiltshire, has been given £5,000 from the community foundation’s Coronavirus Response Fund to buy tablets so residents can make video calls.
