In this issue
Merry Christmas! With customary reindeer, tales of feasting at Stonehenge, news from Salisbury Cathedral and a host of Christmas gift ideas, the December issue of Wiltshire Life will help your festivities go with a swing. Meet our cover star, Blitzen, and take him for a walk, or step out along the Ridgeway with Chris Cole. If you’re looking for a family outing, discover what’s on at the National Trust and why Wiltshire means so much to this organisation, or you might want to visit one of the pubs around Devizes to experience a traditional mummers play. You could get a head start on your Christmas shopping in Devizes or Corsham, or visit villages near Westbury. Meanwhile, when it comes to hard graft in the kitchen, we’ve asked Mary Berry to help you cook roast goose. There’s also a little surprise in our centre pages: a spotter’s guide to 17 raptors. Enjoy!
From the editor
This month I had the unusual experience of taking Blitzen the reindeer for a walk down a leafy byway, and you can too. I also spoke to archaeologist Susan Greaney who told me about the excessive festive feasts enjoyed by the people who built Stonehenge. Elsewhere, we’ve been busy preparing something of an extravaganza: a centre-page spotter’s guide to 17 raptors you could see in Wiltshire. Plus, we’ve rounded up events from around the county on our calendar pages for you to enjoy. Merry Christmas!
