The Alton White Horse will be getting rechalked – with the help of a Chinook military helicopter.

After a previous attempt was waved off at the last minute thanks to a blanket of rain-mist, the chinook will fly up 46 tonnes of fresh chalk on Monday the 29th July. Volunteer ‘spreaders’ will be welcomed warmly – and Wiltshire Life has been informed that it’s a “great way to get a tan!”

This will be the first time in 10 years that the landmark has had a major restoration, so it will be quite the sight in what is due to be some lovely weather.

The Chinook will arrive at around 1600 for the first lift, and it is hoped that volunteers will come and spend an hour or so to help out with the spreading.
