This new initiative is for anyone who wants to join an informal group, where they can learn and have friendly conversation in the welcoming environment of Salisbury Museum.

Designed for anyone looking for a fun, social group, but with a connection to the vast collections of the Salisbury Museum, this is ideal if would like to visit the museum but would struggle to get around the 13th century building. Conversation Club brings the museum collections to you in an accessible space on the ground floor. This group is also Dementia Friendly.

Run on the first Monday of every month by community curator Sarah Gregson, the club will have a different theme each time, spanning pre-history to 20th century reminiscence sessions. Over the next year, there will be opportunities to hear from the wonderful volunteers working on, for example, the costume collection, photography archive and parts of the art collection. You will also have the chance to get your hands on objects from the museum's handling collections.

If you are interested in seeing what Conversation Club is like, the launch on Monday 6 January 2020 is free to attend. At the launch, you can hear from the museum's head guide Roger Wadey, who will show you a few special items from the Salisbury Gallery collections, and meet the friendly staff and volunteers.

Sarah Gregson says: “My focus with Conversation Club is making sure absolutely everyone feels welcome. If you are interested then this is the session for you, whatever the reason. You don’t need any previous knowledge; through objects we can give everyone a chance to connect with the past and with each other. It’s all about the chat …. And the tea and biscuits of course.”
